Victoria Williams
Until The Real Thing Comes Along
From the Album,
Water To Drink |
Credit: Audio Engineer
"I recorded Victoria and the band in her 500 sq. ft. house at Joshua Tree, California,
using minimal microphones (4 on the drums) with five
musicians playing live, and then at Mad Dog with Van Dyke Parks and 22 of his best
string-playing friends to capture the perfect take for the song.
Enough to make the hair on the back of
your neck stand at attention." |

Lucinda Williams
Six Blocks Away
From the Album,
Sweet Old World |
Credit: Audio Engineer
"With this great singer/songwriter, my main job was to capture the perfect vocal for
each song. For "Six Blocks Away" we approached the vocals with a very live feel, with
Lucinda singing while playing acoustic guitar. This comes across on the record with
a flowing ease and makes it very listenable." |

Dwight Yoakam
Things Change
From the Album,
Long Way Home |
Credit: Audio Engineer
"Dwight is one of the best lyricists in the biz, I have always enjoyed working
with him. For this anthem, our approach was
aggressive from the start. Guitarist/Producer Pete Anderson set a mood with his
guitar sound, and from that everything else fell right into place." |

Can't Find Love

"What a wonderful
experience to work with Howe, Joey and John of Giant Sand. Kind of like a roller coaster,
just jump on it and ride. The key to this band is to be ready and don't miss a thing
because it all comes very quick. "Can't Find Love" came alive from the first bar,
some songs are just that way. Howe is a genius; everything we have done together is truly
remarkable. Please check this band out!" |

"The Paladins are a band that has been around
for a long time. They like to record with vintage gear for that "sound". To capture
the sonics we recorded on an old 2" 16-track tape machine and a vintage
Neve console at Sound City's big room (Van Nuys, CA). Using all the gear and tricks from days
gone by, we created this timeless masterpiece. This album has to be one of my
favorites." |

Mojo Monkeys
Tailpipe
From the Album,
Hang |
Credit: Audio Engineer, Mixer
"With a band of musicians like this, how can
anything go wrong? Knowing all the members of the band for many years and working on
countless other records with them made this record extremely fun, to finally
record an album of their own songs. Tailpipe is a funky little ditty. We wanted the listener
to have as much fun as we were. There are a lot of outside effects going on in this
song. Many of the sounds we had to create using all the old processing
units we could find. Listen and see if you can pick out some of these outlandish
classic sounds!" |
